How Early Does Sibling Rivalry Begin?

With the arrival of her little sister, Elizabeth has become a hoarder. She hoards pacifiers, blankets, and bottles. If there are any of these things are in reach, even if the other baby is in the process of using them, Elizabeth will try and take them.

I'm sure this phase will pass, especially if we try to encourage her in "big girl" activities, like coloring and reading. She also has her own special big person chair (outfitted so that she can't fall off) where she can watch baseball with Daddy.

Side by Side

I've been trying to see how similar Helen and Elizabeth looked at the same age. So far, I can see that Elizabeth had more hair, and it was a lighter color. I think they may have the same nose, but it looks like Elizabeth has a rounder face and different eyes. Then again, they sometimes look surprisingly similar, but I haven't been able to capture that on film yet.

Stretch!

At one week old, Helen is still working on uncurling. We're also working together on the proper times to be awake and asleep.

Big Sister

Elizabeth is now a big sister, and adapting relatively well for someone so young. We do have some conflicts for Mommy's attention, and there is a lot of curiousity about the new baby ("What happens when I stick my finger here?), however, she's doing as well as any of us now that we are four.

New Arrangement

Now that we have two babies, it's hard to decide where to post their pictures. I'm sure I'll have plenty of individual shots, but here are the two girls together.

Sometimes the Best Toys Are Free

All those toys...and Elizabeth's favorites right now are a paper bag and some cardboard boxes. What's in the bag? Books, of course!

Elizabeth is now a big sister, and adjusting remarkably well. The only conflict we've had is over pacifiers, and Elizabeth tends to hoard them all right now. Not that I'm a pushover, but as long as it defers some of the crying, I guess I'm okay with it.

She's Finally Here!

Helen Charlene arrived August 14, 2006, at 6 PM on the dot. She weighed in at 8 pounds, 1 ounce, and was measured at 20.75 inches long. She is three days old here, sleeping like a baby...which means, of course, it won't last too long.

She is very healthy and we are grateful to be so blessed!

Go A's!

Believe it or not, this is Elizabeth's idea of "smiling for the camera" right now. Or she's trying to look really tough - but it's kind of hard to take her seriously at 30 inches tall and with the pigtails!

If It's Unusually Quiet...

...then she's found herself engrossed in a book or two. I can't complain!
