Oakland Museum of California
On this clear, but windy Saturday, we visited the renovated Oakland Museum. Their current exhibit showcases the history of California, from the indigenous peoples to the 1906s. There were several hands-on items for the kids, but overall, they went through pretty quickly. OMOC also had a Pixar exhibit that the girls seemed to like, where they could see all their favorite movie characters.
The regular exhibit showing the wildlife and geography of California is being renovated, but the rooftop garden is pretty impressive, at least as far as the views are concerned.

Black Chasm Caverns & Natural Bridges
Last weekend was really nice. On Saturday, we all went to Black Chasm caverns in Volcano, CA. Both girls hiked in and John did well in his carrier. We went swimming that afternoon, where it was finally warm enough.
On Sunday, we headed home, stopping at the Natural Bridges recreational area, where you hike down to a river that runs through a limestone cave.
It was a difficult hike (esp. for the little ones), but the cave was really neat. We had a great weekend all together, with the exception that John does not like to be in the car for very long. He's good for up to an hour, but after that he really fusses.
